It's not like you just get a fancy title, a bigger paycheck, and a free pass to boss people around. It's a lot more than that. It's a lot of blood, sweat, and tears. And sometimes, lots of coffee. Here are a few things I wish I had known before becoming a sales leader:
• Sales management is not just selling with a bigger quota. It's a whole different game that requires a different set of skills and mindset. You need to learn how to coach, mentor, and empower your team to perform at their best. You need to shift from being a star player to being a star coach.
• Achieving your sales targets is not enough. You also need to care about the quality of your sales, the satisfaction of your customers, and the growth of your team. You need to strike a balance between short-term results and long-term vision. You need to foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and accountability within your sales organization.
